Hi, my name is Justine and I'd like to welcome you to my website and my practice YouHypnotherapy, which is based in Williamstown in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne.
I find that people are often suspicious of hypnosis and not sure what hypnotherapy involves so I'd like to explain briefly what you expect when you come to see me.
Firstly Hypnosis itself is not a treatment. It's the state of focused relaxation which enables you to be more receptive to new ideas and perspectives. The therapy part comes from what is said whilst you are in hypnosis.
Most people who experience hypnosis say it feels like a pleasant state of deep relaxation. It's the same state that you go through in that moment just as you drift off to sleep but you're not quite asleep, not quite awake. You would hear someone talking or a sudden noise you would just as easily tune in or drift off back to sleep.
The simplest way to describe it is listening with your eyes closed. At the start of the hypnosis session I will invite you to focus on various thoughts until you are receptive to some new ideas that can change your way of thinking. At a subconcious level you will simply choose to accept or reject any suggestions that are made. That's why this approach is such a gentle process.
Before the hypnosis which comes at the end of the appointment we'll go through an intake form and talk about what you want to gain from the sessions. We'll explore the way in which you do things now and find a different way of thinking about things so that your problem no longer exists. It's a solution focused therapy aimed at getting you out of your old ways, helping you move forward, feeling better and doing better.
Unlike the traditional approach which was the old way of doing hypnotherapy, my approach doesn't use scripts, I don't use aversion therapy or past life regression but importantly we don't analyse any traumatic or sensitive that you may have experienced in the past. Very importantly anything you do say in the sessions will be strictly confidential.
Some people hope that hypnosis will be like waving a magic wand over a problem and it will disappear. Unfortunately this isn't the case. So if you think you don't need to put in any effort to make those changes a reality then hypnotherapy isn't for you.
